SxSW Survival guide

Scott Gledhill, speaker for “From Tags to Riches: Life After Code” has written a mini survival guide for us south by south-west virgins and it would appear we might have already made a couple of common mistakes!

  1. So his suggestions are don’t try and see everything, this would be impossible there is just too much going on and we are planning on relying on information we find of other blogs and word of mouth to get the most out of this experience.
  2. Don’t plan a schedule before you arrive. Well that was never going to happen, could you see us sitting around and not get excited about it? I see his point but with knowing this is going to be such a hectic time I think to plan will be the only way to survive.
  3. Ok, so we are not seeing any of Scott’s suggested speakers but we have heard Jeremy Keith talk a couple of times and he has a very down to earth approach to explaining web technologies and it will be a shame to miss but as he is always speaking as these conferences i’m sure we shall see his face again this year. We are seeing Andy Clarke who was highly raved about after @Media last year and also as Paul mentioned in Highlight one Tantek Çelik the CSS genius.
  4. At this point we come to the evening events and extra curricular activities which we will obviously be forced to take part in for example as suggested The great British Booze up and how about Shooting a gun.

All in all I think the verdict is plan for a mind stretching week on more than one front.

heh heh… I do like your comment there about having to choose your panels before you arrive. The hype is undeniably one of the best things of this conference, and I spent hours choosing them all last year.

Would love to see if you stick to it! We will chat over a few beers :-)

    see you there!
