Highlight 3: From Tags to Riches

It surprises me how there is no consistency in job titles for web related roles - one company’s Web Designer is another company’s Front-end Developer. “From Tags to Riches: Life After Code” is all about career paths for coders / designers and I’m hoping it will delve into some of these problems.

I am particularly interested in this as I’ve had problems with my job title for some time. My title changed from Web Projects Manager to Web Design Consultancy Manager in the past year, but to be honest neither title accurately describe what I do. I’m more of a Front-end architect with people management responsibilities, but the “front-end” title has never really caught on.

A couple of familiar names are on this panel, notably Molly Holzschlag who is best known for advocating / instructing on web standards.

I’m sure if you are reading this your role is web related and you’ve had similar problems to me, so check back on the 10th / 11th for my review of the panel and see if there’s a better job title for you!

I don’t know, the youth of today! You should just be glad you have jobs at all.. ;)

Interesting to see how fashion plays a big part in job titles. Remarkable to see the number of people with “innovation” in theirs these days..
